One of my favorite things to see at a newborn session is two, brand-new grandmas with their new titles, doting on their first grandbaby! Moms witnessing their own babies become parents is something truly magical. They are supportive, yet give space, offer advice when prompted, and step aside when not needed. It’s a beautiful dance of everyone metamorphosing into new roles!
As an in-home newborn photographer in Missouri City, Texas, I love capturing these intimate moments. Naturally, I had the grandmas jump in for pictures with their babies holding their new baby! Imagine, one of the first portraits of your new baby—and their grandma—is professional and frame-worthy! Three-generation photos are some of my absolute favorite images to capture, and I’m so honored to preserve these meaningful memories for families.
Our session began like all newborn sessions with me arriving at their home, unloading, and setting up. This gives the parents time to get themselves prepared and feed their baby one last time before our session begins. I usually start with family portraits first so that Mom and Dad are fresh before we begin our day. After the family portraits, we heat up the home to a nice and toasty temperature so that the baby is calm and cooperative for those adorable sleepy poses. We followed the baby’s lead and stopped when he needed to be fed. His mama kept bottles of freshly pumped milk ready at hand to top him off to make him full and sleepy. This baby was a dream! He was so cooperative and calm during the session. Mom and I coordinated their session to match the decor of the baby’s room. The greens and rusts were perfect for a fall session and the colors looked beautiful on Baby SJ!
We got some beautiful awake shots of him which are always a favorite with parents and grandparents! Mom chose almost all the images where he was awake during our ordering appointment! After our formal family portraits and posed individual portraits of baby SJ, we quickly went upstairs for a few lifestyle poses of the family in the baby’s nursery. It was baby SJ’s first trip upstairs and first time in his nursery! It was so special to be able to capture those first moments for this beautiful family!
