Choosing a Houston, Texas newborn photographer can be completely overwhelming but not to worry! I’ve put together a few questions for you to ask potential newborn photographers so you can make an informed decision based on your family’s needs.

  1. What do I get with a newborn photography session?

With so many options for a local newborn photographer in Houston, Texas you really need to ask yourself what are the most important things that I must have as part of this experience. Finding an experienced newborn photographer in Houston will set you on the right path but what do you want out of your photoshoot? Are products important to you? Will someone coming into your home going to make the experience less stressful? Asking yourself these questions will help you narrow down to allow you to find the best newborn photographer in Houston for you.

Everyone works differently but here are some of what is included in my newborn photo shoots…

    • IN-HOME SESSION - All of my newborn sessions are in the homes of my clients. This means you are relaxing in your home while all the work is done for you. This is especially helpful if you have an older child or if you are pumping for your baby. Being in your home allows you to be as comfortable as possible during this experience.

    • CONSULTATION - Upon booking we will have a phone consultation to go over your vision and what is important to you for your newborn photoshoot. Color palettes are chosen and a step by step guide is given to ensure you have everything you need for your session. We will guide you every step of the way from choosing wardrobe to booking your hair and make-up artist.

    • HAIR AND MAKE-UP ARTIST - That’s right, our exclusive hair and make-up artist will be scheduled to come to your home the morning of our session, if you choose to take advantage of the offer. She is an official HMUA for the Miss USA parents and we are so blessed to have her as part of our team! You can follow her work here: https://www.instagram.com/makingfacesxkatie/

    • PROPS FOR BABY - Everything you see in our porfolio is part of our client Waredrobe and props collection. You will not require any additional headbands, wraps, outfits or props for your baby. It’s all included and everything is taken care of for you.

    • PHOTO SHOOT - This is when it all comes together and the time has come to document all of those tiny features you want to remember forever. We will guide you through posing as we capture your first, professional family portrait. These are the most popular for framed prints and are always chosen to be included in heirloom albums.

    • ORDERING APPOINTMENT - Just a few days after your newborn photoshoot, we will schedule a time to meet via Zoom for you to view your beautiful portraits. At this time, you will select your favorite images and together we will create a collection so you’ll have digital images along with the perfect prints (instead of keeping them all on your hard drive).

  2. When do you suggest booking our session?

Booking is suggested 2-3 months in advance to ensure availability.

  3. What if my baby doesn’t sleep?

Over the years, I’ve proudly accepted the nickname “the baby whisperer” by past clients. After 15 years of photographing newborns, I’ve acquired systems and have many tricks to allow your baby to feel comfortable and calm during our session. That being said, some babies have a fear of missing out and don’t want to miss their photoshoot! That’s a perfect time to get some awake shots of your baby but eventually all babies must sleep and when they do we will photograph the sleepy baby poses as well. We are completely baby led and we stop for feedings, cuddles and diaper changes as needed.

  4. How old should my newborn be for my newborn session?

We suggest your baby be 10-14 days old, though certain circumstances may vary. Did you miss this window? Don’t worry! I’ve photographed countless “older” newborns with great success and we take advantage of the incredible eye contact they can now make.

  5. Can my husband and other children be in the photos?

Absolutely, anyone you consider incredibly special to you should be included in these intimate photos. Family dogs are often included and even grandparents have joined in the family portraits.

    Finally,

I hope that providing you with a list of questions to ask and answering them will help you hire a confident and experienced Houston newborn photographer to capture this beautiful season of your lives. Don’t wait to book your session so you don’t miss out on a photographer that you fall in love with. Reach out to them and ask any questions you may have. Hire someone who is professional and has a great reputation and you can’t go wrong.
