Kingwood, TEXAS - NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER | What NOT To Wear To Your NEWBORN/Family Session

I hope you’ve had an opportunity to read my blog post on what to wear for your in home newborn session but now you may be wondering are there any “no-no’s” that you should know about. Following my blog post will guide you in the right direction but here are some things to look out for!

Mom, let’s choose a dress that you will feel comfortable wearing postpartum. My clients have access to my client closet which includes beautiful gowns that are perfect for maternity and postpartum. Most of my clients prefer to wear something they already own and I love the uniqueness it gives to their family portraits. I would avoid something tight on your healing tummy or anything with loud prints. Think soft colors to not distract from your baby.

Let’s address styling dad. Sometimes it can be difficult for dads to find a plain shirt without a logo. If dad doesn’t have a simple t-shirt then opt for a neutral/solid color button-up shirt. If dad doesn’t have either then I have options in my client wardrobe that we can select or we can even order something off of Amazon in a quick pinch. Remember to iron or steam out any wrinkles if the shirt is new. Sometimes dads get dressed and relax until it’s their time to join the shoot. You want to make sure dad doesn’t sit back in a chair and wrinkle his shirt right before his pictures. Relaxing is our goal but not so that we don’t have a polished look.

Bright colors and patterns are what we need to stay completely away from. Think neutrals and creating a pallet along the same colors. Everything doesn’t have to be the same color but needs to have a cohesive look. If you’re struggling with finding something to wear we can work together to find something for you! All of my clients have access to my client wardrobe as well!

Some quick notes to remember are to remove hair ties from wrists and make sure that dad doesn’t wear a hat, have sunglasses on his head or keys and or phone in his pocket!  Moms, ensure your nail polish isn’t chipped as your hands will be photographed. If it is chipped, it’s better to remove it completely.

We can work together to make sure that everyone is looking their best to create lasting family heirlooms! If you are looking to plan a newborn session for your little one, contact me today for more information.
