When do I feed my baby to prepare for our newborn session? This is a very popular question because as new moms, your whole life revolves around feeding your new baby! Trying to coordinate feeding your newborn with a scheduled appointment may seem a little tricky. This is the beautiful advantage of having your newborn session in your home! No stress of feeding before loading your baby and all of their belongings into the car! You’ll want to feed your baby before our session but not necessarily before I arrive to your home.
A custom photo shoot in your home takes a bit of preparation. I’ll need to transform your living area into a small studio and as you’ve well learned, newborns require many “things!” I always say “the smaller the baby, the more things you need!” This is so true even with photography. I bring all of my custom props with tons of options to your home so that together we can create the perfect color combinations for your printed artwork.
With this set up time, you can feed your baby in the relaxing setting of your home. You’ll have plenty of time to soothe your baby while I’m getting prepared for our session. During this time, you’ll remove your baby’s clothing before your feeding. That way we do not disturb a very relaxed, sleeping baby by taking of their outfit. Just wrap your baby in a blanket while you feed leaving him or her in only a diaper. You want to avoid any tight socks, mittens or headbands the morning of your session so that they do not indent your baby’s skin for their photos.
What if my baby gets hungry during our session? We simply stop and feed your baby. You may need to feed a little earlier than you’re used to feeding. Although your baby will be sleeping throughout the session the constant moving and posing will not allow your baby to sleep as peaceful as they are used to. They often wake before their scheduled feeding times and need to be topped off or have a complete feeding. Just like at home, your baby runs the show!
