Behind the scenes of an in-home newborn session

Hi there! I’m a Sugarland and Houston in-home newborn photographer and I’m so glad you’re here! If you’ve booked your luxury portrait experience and will have your newborn session in your home, don’t worry! You’ll receive a very detailed guide to help prepare yourself, family, baby and home!

If you’re new here, here’s a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes and tips on how to prepare your home for an in-home newborn session…

Part of the magic of having a newborn session in your home is bringing the experience to you without having to put forth any more effort to making the session happen. I show up with all of the props necessary for our session while you can sit back and watch the magic unfold. There is some essential prep work to get your home ready for your session but it’s very simple, I promise!

For starters, I need an open space to work. This is usually the family's living area where there’s space to push furniture and make way for my backdrops, lighting and props. No need to move any furniture just yet. Once I arrive, I will scout your home to pick the best spot to set up. At this point, I will usually ask your partner to help me move the furniture out of the way. Rugs will need to be rolled up and moved as well. When you move furniture and rugs its inevitable that we will need a vacuum, broom, or swifter to collect the dust from the floor.

One of the most important things to remember about newborns is that they get very cold when their clothing is removed. In order to keep them comfortable while getting them into adorable, sleepy poses is to keep the room warm. Although I bring a small space heater, we will need to warm up the room once we begin the individual portrait session for your newborn. I usually do not turn down the air conditioner until after our family and parent pictures have been taken. We need mom and dad to be very comfortable while their portraits are being taken but after that we need to crank up the heat!

One of the advantages of having the session in your home is that together we can take a look at your existing wall space and plan our shoot with wall art in mind. We can measure and discuss the different options for printed products to ensure the right piece for your home! If you’d like more information on booking an in-home newborn session, click here!
